1978 to 1987
Early in this period discussions were held with the Shire on the purchase of a Toyota 4 wheel drive, diesel land cruiser with a water tank of approx. 150 – 170 Gallons. Also a radio communications setup with the shire was discussed. Late in 1979 the shire had a fire control seminar at Bindoon and there were a number of small detachable units on display. The Brigade members inspected these units with a view to purchasing a suitable unit. The Shire was prepared to provide funding for a suitable type. In 1980 the brigade approached the Shire to purchase a Toyota 4 wheel drive landcruiser, diesel with a water capacity of 150 – 170 gallons. Also at this meeting E. Schmidt informed the meeting that the Shire was considering a radio network within the Shire. The brigade informed the Shire of our willingness to be involved and would provide a portion of the funding for either the unit or the radios. The meeting on the 9th of November 1981 was informed the Shire will make a decision at the next Council meeting to install 1 base station and 5 mobile units and associated equipment.
In 1982 the Shire excepted a tender for the radio network and the brigade will revive one radio to install in one of the units. The Brigade agreed to purchase an extra radio for the other unit.
This is the first time in the minutes that two units have been mentioned. Later in the same minutes it was reported that the brigade had taken possession of a unit donated by the Bush Fire Board and a truck by the Council. This unit was donated on the understanding that the unit is available to assist the Bush Fire Board in controlled burns in the state forest to the east of our area and that it is to be housed. It was moved that we accept the responsibility of housing, running and maintaining this new unit. It was to be housed at E. Schmidt’s.
Annual fees were raised to $15.00
